ASB - Five Percent Rule
ASB is a fundraising based group just like all other clubs on campus. They are in charge of almost all events that are put together at school. They plan dances, rallies, and so much more. It has been announced that ASB will be charging every club a five percent fee when fundraising through their system. This is because when clubs do any sort of online fundraising there is a credit card fee, and when people get that fee on their card the clubs are also receiving that money. So, not only are they receiving the fundraising money, but they are also receiving that extra bit.
“For the past several years ASB has been paying thousands of dollars out of our own student funds to pay for those credit fees for clubs that are fundraising,” said Mrs. Van Zee.
This is costing ASB an outrageous amount of money. Due to this financial problem ASB needs clubs to pay the five percent, so they can pay off these continuous fees. However, if clubs do not like this new rule there is always an alternative which is not fundraising through ASB’s system.
“Clubs are free to not fundraise through our system. They can fundraise through GoFan. GoFan charges them ten percent, I’m gonna charge five, again it pays for that credit card processing fee,” said Van Zee.
This fee is not meant to disrupt or interfere with fundraising for any clubs, it is just to help and allow ASB to pay off the credit card fees. ASB wants other clubs to fundraise, but ASB must fundraise themselves because they are a group of students who have to pay for all the events they put on too. This just makes it easier for the students to not have to pay off these fees out of their own student account.
“It has nothing to do with ASB attempting to take money that the clubs are fundraising,” said Van Zee.
They are currently sending out emails to each club about this change in hoping each club will be understanding and cooperative. Clubs can decide to fundraise through a different system if they prefer. This is just to prevent ASB from losing their own funds by paying for all the fees, and they will now be able to keep most of their money instead of losing the majority. This is a helpful and more efficient way to deal with the financial payments ASB comes across with periodically.
