Los Osos Cares Auction Helps Those in Need

Los Osos Cares is a local non-profit organization that has the goal of helping out the people in their community. They have numerous programs that are aimed at bettering the Los Osos sense of community. Recently, the organization had a fundraiser to help fund their activities. The fundraiser took place on October 28th at the local golf course, Sea Pines Resort. 

The fundraiser was very successful. It was a silent auction with a “golf ball raffle”. According to Angela Frank, who held a leadership position in this fundraiser, “each event made us a profit of about 3000 dollars.” This is a huge amount of money for a non-profit to earn in such a small community. 

One of their biggest programs are the weekly community dinners held for those in need. Every Wednesday from 5:00pm to 6:00pm they serve dinner to over 100 people. In the calendar year of 2022 there were over 4800 meals served to the local community. 

While everyone knows that the local population is primarily retired elderly's, there are not always a lot of resources readily available for them. Los Osos Cares provides a resource for them, a Senior Outreach program that provides numerous resources. Check ins and grocery deliveries are some of their most popular services for this program. 

The organization also has a program that is aimed at helping those in poverty. The Womenade Program helps anyone who is struggling. This program is funded by donations and money earned at their events. They want to be able to provide aid in paying for necessities such as food, clothes, toiletries, etc. A lot of people in need receive a gas card, which is 100 dollars per month, about 76 people per month receive this. 

One of their newest programs is the Latino Outreach program which was formed in order to help Latinos in need. They have numerous resources to help them, such as Spanish speakers that can connect with them and understand what their needs are. 

Los Osos Cares is a great local non-profit organization that really just wants to help everyone. They are a volunteer based organization that is always accepting new volunteers.
