The government is rapidly changing, with different ideas for policies and tariffs seemingly every hour, especially with the recent administration change. One of the most prominent and alarming of these changes was the announcement that Trump is “not joking” about running for a third presidential term, which he explained on a phone call with NBC News on March 30, 2025.
On the same call with NBC, Trump said, “There are methods which you could do it.” But besides agreeing with the scenario of having Vice President JD Vance run for office and then pass the position on to Trump, Trump simply replied, “No” to a request for any further options he might consider. Whichever way the current president would go about it, however, would explicitly go against the Constitution and certainly be the maker of a greater divide in his supporters’ and opponents’ opinions of him and his administration, causing many problems with American citizens and the government.
However, in the president’s latest interview with NBC, Trump denied any idea that he would serve more than the constitutional two terms. “I always thought that was very important,” he said, following the announcement that he would serve no more than eight years total, contradicting several of his previous statements about the issue. Trump said when asked by NBC to elaborate on the announcement, “There are many people selling the 2028 hat. But this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward.” The “great Republican” to Trump seems to be between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, which, of course, will in the end not be up to President Trump.
Although President Trump clearly stated a little over a month ago to the same news source that he was serious about considering ways to get around the law forbidding three presidential terms, it is surely a relief to many that there will no longer be the concern of Americans that the 22nd Constitutional Amendment is being ignored by the current president.
