The new school year has been full of change for the MBHS drama program. With their brilliant new director on maternity leave, the program needs someone to steer the ship. Community hero Erin Davis has taken on this position with a windless demeanor.

Davis has been a vital part of the program for years, often going above and beyond to assist in the show-making process. Now that she’s assistant director, her support is more significant than ever before.

Davis has been involved since the early days of the MBHS drama program, when shows were performed outside and costumes were made out of tablecloths. Since then, the program has gained its own theater complete with a sound and lighting system, an array of fabulous costumes, and much more. These achievements wouldn’t be possible without her aid. Davis has provided meals for the students, built set pieces with her own materials, taken professional photographs for each show, and this is only scratching the surface.

Davis’ goal as an advisor for this program is to sustain this triumphant era for the program. “I have had a daughter come through this program and I’ll have one here next year. I wanted to know that the program was solid. I didn’t want anything to happen to that foundation or the program as a whole.”

It’s apparent that Davis holds the performing arts in high regard and perceives it as a valuable experience for students. This viewpoint can be connected to her background in high school theater. “We had a really amazing theater program at the high school I went to. We worked with pretty wonderful directors. I even had the pleasure of going to high school with a current Broadway star, Betsy Wolfe.”

Davis’ sentiment for the program stems from a deep appreciation for theater. “I believe theater teaches perseverance in the long hours of rehearsals, dedication in memorizing lines and working behind the scenes. It also teaches invaluable life lessons in disappointment and rejection, and navigating all the personalities we find in our program, while simultaneously giving you a place to find community, push your boundaries and know that you can achieve so much when you put your mind to it.”

Davis has always been incredibly important to the members of MBHS’ drama program. She is a pillar of support and a strong woman who keeps the wheels turning. The program is beyond grateful to have such an incredible individual as their assistant director.
