An Update on the Varsity Boys Soccer Team
Morro Bay has been playing soccer for a couple decades now, and while the boys team hasn't always done great, last year marked the first time the team has made it to CIF in a long time. This year, the varsity boy’s team is hoping to do the same, and they only need a few more wins to make it to CIF again.
I interviewed varsity soccer player Ethan Peoples, who has been playing on the team all four years of high school, and he gave me some insight on what goes on behind the scenes of the team, stating, “everyone’s been doing really great, we’re all really close and having fun.” This camaraderie is a major factor in the team's recent success, with 5 wins so far this season and hopefully, many more.
Another contributing factor to the team’s 5 wins is head coach Shea’s leadership and instruction. Unfortunately, due to our school’s relatively small size, the options for making a highly skilled team are much more limited, in comparison to a high school like SLO. This means that, as seasoned seniors graduate, the coaches have to continually start fresh with small selections of new players, and tough competition from other, larger schools.
With the end of their season approaching, it is once again time for the boy’s soccer senior night, happening directly after their final home game of the season. It was hosted on Friday the 2nd, and the players and attendees enjoyed free tacos, as they bid farewell to the seniors, who will be sorely missed.
