JV Girls Soccer Update
Our girls soccer team is a part of a new league this year, the Sunset league, which consists of familiar schools such as the Paso Robles Bearcats, the Lompoc Braves, and our Morro Bay Pirates. In this harder league, the teams face more competitive opponents which has led to our varsity girls team to have a losing streak of 7 losses. But our JV team has taken their opponents head on with a winning streak of 1.
Our JV team is led by the team captains Vena Fryer (freshman), Audrey Wilder (sophomore), and Nataly Lopez (junior). Vena Fryer shares her thoughts on how the season is going with this new team, “it’s going really well, even though we don't have a great record we improve every game, and we're becoming a really strong team…it's been a really fun season.”
The improvement has paid off, with a successful win this January when the pirates took on the Orcutt Academy Spartans away in Orcutt with a hard fought score of 2-1. Ryanne Dedic and Coco Fortini, both freshman, scored the two goals resulting in the win for the Morro Bay JV team. When I spoke to Phaedra Fernflores about the game, she said, “it went very well, we fought hard, and we worked as a team. We had a lot of connections in that game, a lot of great passing sequences and it led to us scoring and winning!”
Recently girls soccer has battled against the Santa Ynez Pirates and the Lompoc Braves, all ending with defeat. So what made the Orcutt game so different from the other games that resulted in a loss? “I think everyone stayed in their respective positions better and we just had more coherence on the field,” Fernflores said.
Although the scores and records are down, the spirits and will for the game are for sure up. With team bonding and a connected team the love for the game by all the MBHS soccer players stays the same. Keep going Pirates!
