On Tue. Jan. 21, the varsity and junior varsity boys basketball teams went up against Santa Ynez high school. Unfortunately, neither team secured a win, but they plan on winning more games in the future.

“We have good team chemistry and we definitely got better since the start of the season. We didn’t get a pre-season, so we are kind of behind other teams in the area who get a pre-season, but I think we are getting better as we’re going on in the season. We’re working together better,” said junior Eli Hague.

With the help of coach Dougherty and team captains, seniors Jake Falat and Everett Davidson, boy’s varsity has really improved since they started their season.

“[Dougherty’s] good at coming up with plays for us to run during games. I feel like they work pretty well. But he's also good at, when he sees something else is working and it’s not really in the designed play, he’s just letting that run out,” said Hague.

Even though they had a rough start to their season, the boy’s varsity players are currently 2-1 in league and they plan on going far. The junior varsity team, despite working hard, has unfortunately not secured a win yet this season. Overall, they are 2-5 and in the league they are 2-2. Fortunately, they were able to have a pre-season, so newcomers and returning players were able to get that extra practice in.

The boys have been close to securing a couple wins, being only five points behind, but have not taken the win quite yet. The boys have worked hard during practice to critique and master their skills so they can be prepared for the rest of their season.

So far this season, the junior varsity boys have improved their team skills, and most importantly their team chemistry. They look forward to the rest of their season and to see where it takes them.
