On Feb. 26, the boys varsity baseball season officially started. They played against Fresno High School for their first game, and won 5-2. They have 29 games overall this season and hope to win as many as they can.

At practice, the boys start with their warm up stretches and individual stretches. They then begin throwing, hitting, and end with fielding. Junior Elias Brown mentioned that the team this year is very strong in each of these areas. With a more positive mindset and less negativity it makes it easier for the boys to become closer as a team and work hard. Brown also mentioned that last year's team was more negative and less supportive, and that the seniors were “bad influences.” The boys this year are more uplifted and motivated because of this new positive team environment. They all work hard to be better athletes, but also better teammates.

“We played three games so far and we are 3-0, so we are looking to continue our success throughout the season,” said Brown.

The team's chemistry this season is very strong, and the boys work well together since most of them have been playing with one another over the years. During practice the team focuses on finding more ways to score runs, but also pick each other up and be as supportive as they can. Their first goal is to try and win league, and if that is accomplished then the boys will shoot for winning CIF.

So far the junior varsity’s season has come off to a rough start. They were unsuccessful on Wednesday against Arroyo Grande with an ending score of 0-24. Two weeks ago, they also played against Fresno and unfortunately did not secure a win.

“Our pitching is decent but we have to work on fielding and batting,” said sophomore Maddox Miner.

The JV boys are currently working hard on their batting and fielding during practice, so the next time they have a game they are prepared and ready to play. They plan for this season to be a great one, but they know they must work harder. Good luck pirates in your next game, hoping to secure a win!
