Gabrielle White

“Through my eyes, Gabi is a very smart and beautiful soul,” said junior Emerson Jacquay, junior Gabrielle (more commonly known as White) White’s best friend. White is inspiring, to say the least. As White rambled, it became clear that she was passionate, down to her core. When asked what she was most passionate about, White said, “I’ve always felt very connected to music. I started to play guitar to feel more connected to the music I was listening to.” Music has been a key factor in White’s personal journey, something she’s invested countless hours into. Growing up, White would listen to music with her grandmother, often requesting more emotional music from artists like Joni Mitchell or Simon and Garfunkel, as opposed to more upbeat music. “I just wanted to listen to songs with more feeling,” White said.
Another important part of White’s life is costuming for MBHS Drama Program. When asked why she does costuming, White said, “I just feel the most myself, the most authentic version of me when I do drama. Costuming just feels like what I was meant to do.” This personal connection to costuming can be seen throughout White’s work. Each costume she’s designed reflects a piece of her. Her inspiring efforts can be seen through each crinoline, sash, and bowtie on stage. Though costuming is tough work, White endures it with a positive attitude and a beaming smile. Her motivation to take on such a grueling task comes from Jacquay. “She’s my best friend, and it’s hard to think of a world without her. Once you find that person who motivates you to be the best person you can be, then you gotta stick with them.” White’s connection with Jacquay is something that can easily be seen at a glance. The two are connected at the hip, a dynamic duo that anybody could recognize.
Just as White had plenty to say about Jacquay, Jacquay had plenty to say about White: “She puts so much effort into anything she puts her mind to. When you ask her to do something, she will get it done to the best of her ability. You can always rely on her.” White’s determination is admirable, and although she’s new to journalism, she’s ecstatic about writing articles. White enjoys the realistic writing style that journalism encourages, going as far as to say, “I love drama.” Of course, when White said this she meant she loves writing about the present, telling unheard stories from today’s current events. She’s sure to write a plethora of fantastic articles throughout this school year.
