A Student Review of a Student Production: Little Women
Friday January 27th marked the first night of the Morro Bay High School Drama Program’s latest production; the musical adaptation of beloved novel and film Little Women. With a cast of just 10 students ranging from freshman to senior, the company has been working since November on telling the story of Little Women through song. Naturally, many questions arise for us viewers, such as, “how does it compare to the film and novel?”
To start with the casting of this show, when I went to see Little Women on the 28th of January, I couldn’t help but notice the exquisite casting. Having read the book and seen the movie, it was clear to me that the actors in this musical embodied their character’s personalities perfectly. Senior Josephine Davis who played the lead of this production, Jo March, never missed a beat and gave the character dimension and emotion. Another casting that I, as well as several members in the audience really enjoyed, was Dian Lewis as Aunt March. Her singing and stage presence was astounding and she added a bit of comedic relief to this production.
To go with the great stage performance of the students in this production was amazing costumes, hair, and makeup to bring everything together. The costuming of this show as well as the hair and makeup, added so much color and depth to the story keeping viewers in awe throughout the whole show.
The Morro Bay High School Drama Program’s production of the musical Little Women with the outstanding singing and acting, great costumes, fun choreography, and the overall spirit that the entire cast brought to this show, definitely paid homage to the book and movie version of Little Women, and made the show a joy to watch. It truly might be the best production yet put on by MBHS drama.
