CTE Pathways on Campus
Here at Morro Bay High School, a plethora of opportunities are offered to students. The Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways are series of electives students can take that will not only enrich their minds, but their potential in a more advanced and specified field, that could someday be a career. The CTE pathways require you to take some prerequisite courses before you can take your last fulfilling class on the subject. For example, for the Music Production class, you must have completed at least one year of band or choir in order to move forward.
Each year, the number of students taking CTE pathways rapidly grows. Last school year, the graduating class of 2024 had a total of 85% of its students complete at least one CTE pathway. The CTE pathways look great on college applications and can open doors in a specific field to its students. Even before students start their high school career, the school does its best to inform incoming freshmen about the opportunities before them. Many students might even be already on track for a CTE without realizing, that is how wide of a variety of options the school really has to offer. The CTE pathways that MBHS has to offer its students are: industrial technology, agriculture, art, film, music, and science.
CTE pathways give students insight into what a real job looks like, and the different pathways allow for even more students to end up completing one by the end of their four years in high school. Over the years the school has lost some pathways like child development, and others have developed further, like music production. While all these pathways are different in curriculum and content, in the end they are preparing you for a possible career in the real world, and are all useful to get to know new people who share the same interest as you, as well as educating you in a unique way.
You can find more information about CTE pathways in the college and career center on Tuesdays and Thursdays by talking to our Cuesta liaison, Jessica Hoyt, and through your class’ Google Classroom.
