Jocelyn Ocampo-Mateo

Students at MBHS are often described as understanding and accepting, as many staff members tend to brag about the overall kindness of students. When thinking of model students at MBHS who highlight our school and what it's about, junior Jocelyn Ocampo-Mateo comes to mind.
When asked what three words best describe Jocelyn, her friends said, “Dedicated, creative, and thoughtful.” “Jocelyn is one of the most loyal people I know, I seriously trust her with my life,” Said Angus McNellie, Ocampo’s close friend. Ocampo is also described as reliable and selfless. Being an amazing student, who strives to be involved in her school's community, Ocampo is a kind and extraordinary person.
Ocampo’s plan is to attend a 4 year university after high school and said, “My dream school is UCLA.” She also plans on majoring in media studies and possibly attending a law school after. Ocampo is passionate and excited about her plans for the future and how she's going to achieve them, further highlighting her optimistic and outgoing personality.
When talking about the future, many students tend to have a hard time figuring out what exactly they want to do, however when talking to Ocampo, she seemed to have an idea of what she wants her future to look like. When asked what she wants to pursue as a future career, Ocampo said, “I either would like to be a journalist, or a lawyer.” Although Ocampo is a junior, she seems to be very goal oriented and passionate about her future endeavors, and that passion is something that anyone can look up to.
When asked about her hobbies and extracurriculars, Ocampo said, “As long as I've been in highschool, I’ve always been involved in some form of art on campus. I'm huge on drama club, I'm currently the treasurer and I was the social media manager last year.” As many people at MBHS know Ocampo for her key role in drama club, many people may recognize her from the MBHS production of Little Women, and the 24 hour musicals of Camp Rock and Teen Beach Movie. Ocampo’s presence on and off the stage has an air of confidence which can be felt by anyone around her.
Ocampo’s relaxed posture and smile gives the impression of realness. Her legitimate tone when asked her about a future career or school and the fact that she kept a smile on her face and answered the questions without hesitation. Her confidence and poise is admirable.
