Tis the Season for the Winter Formal
by Maddison Day
December 16, 2024Dec. 6, 2024 marks the date of the annual winter formal. Each year Morro Bay High School ASB puts together the Winter Formal, an event where everyone can get together with friends and dance the night away. This year the theme was Northern nights, which is a play on words of the popular “Northern lights.” This year the decorations consisted of black curtains. “The decorations were so cute and really played into the theme. It was one of the best decorations in one of our school dances,” said Jocelyn Ocampo.
This year was a bit different when it came to the music, however. This year, juniors Aesa Vidati and Anders Schuerfeld were the DJs. Some people believed there should have been slower songs since it was winter formal, but many people enjoyed the rap that was played. It truly felt like the dance was for students by students. It was Vidati and Schuefeld’s first time DJing at a dance and almost everyone can agree that it was amazing for their first time.
While interviewing senior ASB president Nate Landwehr, he was asked about his overall opinion of the winter formal. “I feel like it was really good overall, we had a lot of ticket sales at the door so more people ended up showing,” said Landwehr. As the winter formal had we sold 69 tickets at the lunch sales, then more were bought at the door. When Landwher was also asked about some improvements that could be made for the next dance, he said, “It was hard for a formal kind of dance. What we were trying to do for each dance is have alternate activities for them to do. Like at homecoming we had a poker table and at the neon dance last year we had a drink station.” This should be done in order to attract more students to stay longer instead of just leaving after their favorite song.
Overall the dance this year seemed to have not only great feedback but also a great turnout. Everyone is so excited for the next dance and can’t wait to see what ASB has in store.
