Michelle Obama Endorses Kamala Harris at the DNC
Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the U.S., kicked off election season with a speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). She and Barack Obama, former President of the United States, showed up at the DNC to support Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Her speech focused on the hope and the determination in the air. “The anticipation, the energy, the exhilaration of once again, being on the cusp of a brighter day,” M. Obama said, making the crowd erupt in the ambition and excitement she talks about.
M. Obama compared the values both their mothers taught them from a young age: how the strength, kindness, and perseverance that were passed on through both their families, have influenced Harris’s life and the way she will act as a president. “My girl, Kamala Harris, is more than ready for this. She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of presidency,” M. Obama said. She continued on to say how Harris understands the challenges of people of color and understands all of the difficulties that America has. “In America, we do something. And throughout her entire life, that's what we’ve seen from Kamala Harris, the steel of her spine,” M. Obama said, sparing no doubt who she supported in the election and why.
Later, M. Obama went on to say why former president Donald Trump, the other alternative for office, is unfit to be president in the future. “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” she said, talking about how he treated her and her husband and how he tried to get people to fear them. Now, she says he currently treats Harris the same way. “Who’s going to tell him the job he's currently seeking might just be one of those ‘Black jobs’?” M. Obama said, referring to a comment Trump made at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. She then mentioned Trump’s healthcare cuts and the education system he has negatively affected. “There is no other choice than Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. No other choice,” M. Obama said after she expressed her thoughts on Trump and his way of “doubling down on ugly, misogynist, racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and solutions that will actually make people's lives better.”
M. Obama reminded the crowd that they need to stay strong and have sheer tenacity throughout the election, no matter what words are spread. “We cannot indulge our anxieties about whether this country will elect someone like Kamala, instead of doing everything we can to get someone like Kamala elected,” M. Obama said. “Do something,” M. Obama said, in unison with the chanting of the mass of people in front of her. She left the audience inspired and with a sense of motivation to get things done. “And let us keep moving our country forward, and higher, yes, always higher than we’ve ever gone before,” M. Obama said, ending her speech with powerful words.
