From March 31- April 1 at the annual CinemaCon convention, there were numerous massive announcements that led to movie enjoyers being ecstatic. However, Marvel and Sony broke everyone’s expectations when they announced the hotly anticipated next film in the Spider-Man series: “Brand New Day.”
The title has showcased that the use of the word “Home” in the previous three movies is separating those films as their own trilogy, which does not come as a shock when considering the ending to the most recently released film: “No Way Home.” The titling is not the only thing that is being changed however, as the new film is being directed by Dustin Daniel Cretton, who is taking over for Jon Watts, who tackled the previous three movies. Cretton, who has previously directed the Marvel film Shang-Chi, said that he wanted to shake things up by exploring Peter Parker’s “imperfect messy humanity.”
It is currently unclear whether or not Peter Parker will still have to deal with possible world-threatening events like the previous movies did. Many fans have been calling on Marvel to make Spider-Man a street level superhero much like Daredevil. With Peter Parker having to start over after the events of “No Way Home,” there is a strong possibility that this will be the case, though no antagonist has been currently announced.
The new film surrounding everyone’s favorite web-slinger was given a release date of July 31, 2026 with filming starting within the coming months. The announcement of this film coincides with the recent huge cast announcement for “Avengers: Doomsday,” which left out one big name: Tom Holland as Spider-Man. This is an interesting aspect for the Avengers film as it is coming out three months prior on May 1, 2026. Whether or not Holland is in the film seems like it will greatly play into the plot of “Brand New Day.”
An aspect many are looking forward to is the new comic-accurate suit that Peter Parker was teased to wear in the end of the previous film, “No Way Home.” There were mixed opinions from many on the direction the films went with the “StarkTech infused suits that were featured in the previous films. Whether or not the suit will remain comic-accurate is a part of the film that will have to be discovered closer to release.
