Olivia Moreno Kickstarts her High School Soccer Career
Freshman Olivia Moreno started playing soccer when she was 8 years old. She started playing soccer through Central Coast Soccer Club and continued with them for seven years. She considers soccer to be her greatest passion and her calling. Her family supported her dreams by putting her in recreational soccer and club soccer shortly after. She has two loving parents and an older and younger brother. “My family is a big part of my life and I don’t think I’d be where I am now in school or sports without all of them,” said Moreno.
During middle school, Moreno felt excited to advance to high school for the freedom and the opportunity to play soccer for her school. When she finally got here, she made varsity in her first year and reconnected with friends she knew from club soccer. “It was so good to see everyone outside of the club and play soccer with some of the same people but with a different dynamic,” said Moreno. “Pre-season was really useful to me because it allowed me to warm up to everything and season practices have just been fun,” said Moreno, talking about how she liked pre-season and current practices. She loved playing on varsity and is extremely grateful for the people on the team. “Practice is always so fun because I get to play a sport I love while spending time with my close friends. Even if we’re doing hard drills or conditioning, the girls still manage to make it fun,” said Moreno.
Moreno describes herself as “bubbly and fun.” “I am usually up for anything and just pretty chill,” she said. “Olivia is one of the happiest people I know, she is always smiling and just cheerful all the time,” said freshman Mia Garner, a close friend of Moreno. Moreno plans to attend a four-year university after high school and study sports medicine to become a nurse. However, she doesn’t know if she wants to continue playing soccer through college. Other than her sport, she likes to surf and hang out with friends.
Moreno is proud of herself for getting on varsity and excited for the season to start. She is ready to show her skills and hopefully help the team win some games, which she already has done. “I am very happy for this opportunity of being a freshman on varsity, everyone has been so welcoming and I think it's going to be a really fun season,” said Moreno. During the first varsity scrimmage of the season, Moreno was the only person on the team to score against Atascadero. Moreno shows promise of a bright future with her dedicated and cheerful nature.
