Baseball Season Pitches to a Start
After months of pre-season, MBHS’ baseball’s season has officially begun. During the summer, baseball players started practicing for the upcoming season. Now, it's finally spring and the real training begins. Official baseball for MBHS started on Feb. 26, however, they had their first pre-season scrimmage on Feb. 19 against Paso Robles High School. Their season is off to a great start with hard working players and good coaches. The baseball team's first pre-league game was on Saturday, Feb. 22, at home. Although they played hard, after nine innings, they were unable to come up with a win.
Both the junior varsity and varsity teams also played an away game on Feb. 26, against Fresno High School. The season stats showed a great chance of MBHS winning. Varsity won 5-2 and JV lost 15-4. The baseball team is currently in Division IV after they were moved down from Division III this year. However, the team has high hopes for a winning season, and has lots of new players joining in from all grades. “I am so excited to start this season strong and incredibly grateful for an opportunity to play for the team. I love my teammates and not only have I made so many new friends I also have improved my game so much compared to the start of pre-season," said freshman Hunter Stow, pitcher for the junior varsity team. Many of the freshmen and upperclassmen are excited to play and enjoy the coaching of Jarred Zill.
Baseball season is officially off and running and all grades are anticipating good games, practices, and team chemistry this year. “The team is definitely growing closer and I think once we start our league games we will work together really well. My first year of high school baseball is going great thanks to the team and my coach, the practices are already really fun and I’m expecting a pretty good season,” said freshman Benjamin Walker, right fielder on the baseball team. All in all, the MBHS baseball team and supporters are banking on a successful year, and everyone is enjoying it so far.
