Freshmen Starting JV Girls Soccer: Their Thoughts On the Team
By Ava Schmidt
As the incoming freshmen make their way onto the JV girls soccer team, they begin to learn the team dynamics as well as how everyone works together. This can be a good experience for them as it is their first time on a high school soccer team. Being on the team is a whole new level of commitment for the players, while they have to find a way to balance school and sports.
The JV soccer team leaves school for games mainly on Tuesdays and Thursdays to compete with many other schools in and out of their league. “High school soccer is different from middle school soccer because it’s a lot more competitive,” said Freshman Trilby Grafton. High school soccer is highly competitive, which makes it more fun for the players on the team as they challenge themselves to learn new skills to improve and uplift their team.
These games allow the players to bond further, and continue making new friends with other players on varsity. “I like that before home games we have a team dinner and that helps everyone work together because of the team bonding,” said freshman, Ariana Kong. The bond that they create can help with their communication on the field during a game.
“It’s really fun and I enjoy playing with everyone because they all have really good sportsmanship,” said freshman Sienna Hendricks. From the field to school, everyone is very supportive of each other. That’s why soccer is such an enjoyable sport, whether you are a returning player or a newer one, the members of the team make it feel like a whole.
Currently, the girls JV soccer team has over 10 freshmen on it, and the majority of them enjoy the team dynamics and how they work together to win a game. The freshmen benefit from the change of pace compared to the “chill” side of the middle school soccer teams, as they learn to be more competitive as well as learning new skills.
