The MBHS football team is and has been fundraising for an amazing opportunity that is offered to them next fall. The team is having multiple fundraisers trying to raise the money needed for them to go to Maui, Hawaii. They will be playing their first game there during 2025’s football season but in order to play there they need to fundraise all the money needed.
The boys all have a personal goal of $1,000, while all together, the goal is $30,000. Junior Sands Dourgherty said “I’ve made about $550 for now.” The guys personally sell tickets for their car washes and have a certain amount of tickets that need to be sold. Junior Luca Macari said “I made a few $100 to $300 with my tickets.” The guys have both a lot of dedication into this whole fundraising process.
This has been the second year the team has put on this event to fundraise. Their coach, Robert Dourgherty came up with the incredible idea to have a carwash for members of our community to go to and support. The boys all worked together and bonded while doing this event. Many of them stated that they had a lot of fun bonding with the team and just hanging out. Sophomore Cole Ferrer, said “As a group, during our first car wash we made $2,000 as well as hanging out with the boys.”
The reason these boys are working so hard is because they’re fundraising to go to Maui, Hawaii, which is where their coach and their buddy are from. S. Dourghty said, ”I’m excited because it’s going to be so much fun and bringing my friends from here will be great. I also will see some of my friends there as well.” This experience is an amazing opportunity for the boys to bond and to connect with their coach.
The team is not only doing three car washes but also a casino night for the parents. The casino night is on April 26, and is for adults only to have a fun time and to support the team. The guys are still working away at fundraising and are very excited about what is to come in the future when we return back to school.
