This year, Indian Wells Open began on Sunday Mar. 2, and the final match will be on Sunday Mar. 16. The tournament started off with a qualifying round of 128 players, then 64, then 32. In the first round of 128 in the women’s section, it looked promising for 17 year old Iva Jovic, who beat 28 year old Julia Grabher, from Austria, in her first match of the tournament. However, she then went on to the next round where she was beaten by 29 year old Jasmine Paolini.

“It was very exciting to watch, and I can’t believe I was able to see so many amazing players, even though it was only the first round.” said senior Elsey Ruane. The first round of the tournament was a not very eventful round, with the higher ranked players moving up and lower ranked going home. “I really enjoyed going with Elsey and being able to see so many players,” said senior Sasha Laloire.

The quarter final round began in Stadium one with Carlos Alcaraz versus Francisco Cerundolo, with Alcaraz advancing to the semi-finals with a final winning score of 6-3 and 7-6. Followed by Daniil Medvedev against Arthur Fils, with Medvedev advancing to the next round. Then in Stadium two, it was Jack Draper against Ben Shelton, with Draper taking the win and advancing to the next round. This match was followed by Holger Rune and Tallon Griekspoor, with Rune winning the match after three sets with a score of 5-7, 6-0, and 6-3.

The women’s quarter finals started roughly the same time the men’s did, with Aryna Sabalenka advancing to the next round after an easy match against Liudmila Samsonova. Then in the same court, Qinwen Zheng faced Iga Świątek and put up a good fight but lost the round with a score of 3-6, 3-6. The next match that took place was in Stadium two with another 17 year old, Mirra Andreeva from Russia, who won against Elina Svitolina, a 30 year old player from Ukraine. After the match Madison Keys took on Belinda Bencic, and won easily with a score of 6-1, 6-1.

The men’s semi finals took place on Mar. 15, in Stadium one with Draper taking a hard earned win against Alcaraz, and in the same court Rune faced Medvedev and won the match with a score of two sets overall. The women's semi finals began on Mar. 14, with Sabelanka winning the match against Keys, which was not surprising because she was favored to win. The next match to be played was Andreeva who won against Świątek, who is ranked two out of the entire world, while Andreeva is ranked nine.

The finals began on Sunday Mar. 14, which was the next day for the men’s, but two days for the women’s. For the men’s finals, it was Draper against Rune, with Draper taking an easy win with a score of 6-2, 6-2. He has won three ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) tours, and has only made it to the semi finals of the US Open, so he was favored to win the round against Rune because of his status.

For the women’s finals, it was Sabalenka against Andreeva, with a deserving win of 2-6, 6-4, and 6-3. Although Andreeva was not favored to win the tournament, she put up a fight and broke Sabalenka in the second set. Overall, the results of Indian Wells were surprising for some, while most wanted Draper and Andreeva to win the title of 2025 Indian Wells Championship winners.
