April 19, 2025 saw the beginning of the most important time in all of basketball: the start of NBA playoffs. With many fan favorite teams such as the Lakers and Warriors set to play, the stakes have never been higher. However, this year has seen the playoffs plagued by injuries to star players as well as heightened emotions on the court.
For the Los Angeles Lakers, their recently acquired point guard Luka Doncic suffered both physical and emotional injuries on the court. In a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Doncic was ejected in the fourth quarter after a referee claimed that Doncic was using excessive language against him. In his own beliefs, Doncic claims that the language was geared towards a fan that was excessively trash talking him. The Lakers were eventually able to take down the Thunder in their series to advance further into the playoffs to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. In a need-to-win game for the Lakers in the Timberwolves series, Doncic missed a majority of the first half after suffering a back injury. Doncic was not the only player for Los Angeles that suffered an injury as LeBron James suffered a knee injury in the closing minutes of the game. Minnesota defeated Los Angeles in an overall 4-1 series that put an end to the Lakers’ injury ridden playoffs.
When going up the coast of California, the Golden State Warriors have also been subject to an unfortunate injury with their point guard Steph Curry straining his left hamstring. Curry suffered the strain in the second quarter of game one against the Timberwolves. Curry’s recently dominant performance was notably missing in the Warrior’s second game against the Timberwolves with a loss of 93-117. It is currently unclear when Curry will return and if he will be able to help propel the Warriors further into the playoffs.
When going towards the East Coast, the Boston Celtics have also suffered an injury in their star player, Jayson Tatum. The forward tore his achilles during game four of the Celtics series against the New York Knicks. It is currently unclear the extent to which the injury will affect the rest of Tatum’s series.
With the playoffs still underway, many fans are hoping that their teams do not suffer anymore injuries that lead to an untimely end to the season.
