The Return of Varsity Football - A Season to be Remembered

Almost everyone at MBHS looks forward to football season. A time to get with your friends and watch a game with snacks and school spirit all around you, cheerleaders chanting your favorite phrases and the band playing classic songs. The varsity football team is back again for another great year, with many returning and new players, MBHS is sure in luck for another great season.

Our students on the team have also made some more than impressive accomplishments. Junior Sands Doughtery is currently fifth for the central section in passing yards as well as fifth in total yards, passing, and rushing. Junior Radden Batalla holds the lead on the entire CIF central section for sacks with five through four games. Junior Efrain Hernandaz is sixth in the entire nation for yards per punt at 50.7.

The varsity team captains this year are senior Andrew Llamas, senior Colton Janovec, junior Luca Macari, and Doughtery. Our football team is currently 2-3, making two victorious wins against Foothill and Golden Valley. When asked about this season so far, senior James Nickel said, “It's going very well. We've been working out together since January almost every day, and each day we are getting better and better.”

When asked about personal experience in the team, senior Rowan Mccain said, “From the season opener in Foothill to the two heartbreaking losses in Mt. Whitney and Wasco, as well as the dominating victory over Golden Valley, this team has shown what we are capable of and the innate ability to overcome hardship.”

As of now, MBHS just had a harsh defeat against SLOHS on Friday. However, our team's motivation and determination should help propel us further in the future.
