As the weather gets colder, fall sports come to an end and winter sports begin. Both girls and boys basketball, wrestling, and soccer all started tryouts and practices. Excitement and anxiety filled the air as teams were determined and players were picked. “I'm excited to see how they turn out and how the coaches have decided to set them up,” said freshman Olivia Moreno on girls soccer tryouts. Many people trying out for a winter sport anticipate a good season and are eager to see how everything plays out.

Girls soccer tryouts were Nov. 4th, 6th and 7th for returning players and 5th, 6th and 7th for freshmen or new players. “I do think it would maybe be a little more beneficial if the tryouts were more than three days in case someone has a bad week or something, but I’m excited for them,” said Moreno about the layout of soccer tryouts this year. A large number of girls tryout for soccer every year and this year is no different, over 40 girls tried for a spot on the junior varsity or varsity team. However, this year, more cuts are in store because the coaches decided there will only be 18 to 19 spots on each team, raising the anxiety even more.

Boys soccer tryouts were Oct. 28th, 29th and 30th for new players and Nov. 1st for varsity tryouts. “There was a lot of conditioning but I’m really happy I made varsity and it was a good group of boys this year. I'm excited to see how the season goes,” said freshman Logan McOuat. The best of the best were selected for the boys soccer team as tryouts included plenty of running and conditioning.

Girls basketball tryouts this year were from Nov. 4th to the 8th. There are many mixed feelings around the beginning of basketball season. “I’m excited but also nervous because it wasn’t that scary last year but a lot of girls are not coming back to play again this year,” said sophomore Taylen Robson when asked about her feelings toward basketball tryouts. This year should be an interesting and fun experience for basketball girls.

Boys basketball tryouts were Nov. 4th to the 7th. They were cut one day short, shortening the time that the boys have to show their skill. “Since this is my first basketball season in high school, I wish tryouts weren't shorter but I still had fun with everyone in the gym,” said freshman Chace Dallas when asked about his thoughts on the boys basketball tryouts this year.

Girls wrestling tryouts were Nov. 4th to 8th, spanning the entire week so the girls could show their talent and prove themselves to the coaches and the other wrestlers. Boys wrestling tryouts were also from Nov. 4th to 8th. They both worked hard in the wrestling room and proved what team they deserved to be on.

Winter sport tryouts were overall great experiences from every grade and every sport. According to people who tried out, basketball tryouts were fun and enjoyable. Soccer tryouts were a lot of conditioning for both boys and girls but ultimately had a good time. Wrestling was a hard week but a positive one. All of the coaches and the players were respectful and the teams were decided fairly.
