As we leave the Fall season, Boys Water Polo got the farthest in our school’s history and Cross Country (XC) performed exceptionally well, sending Otis Kelly and the Girls Varsity team to the Division IV CIF finals. Boys Water Polo made it to their second CIF game, narrowly losing to break their streak. XC Girls Varsity got 19th out of 24 at state, and Otis ranked 26th out of 201 at state. This winter, MBHS is offering Basket Ball, Soccer and Wrestling.

Basketball is being coached by Emily Dunn for Boys and Alex Engel for Girls. They practice in the big gym. On December 2nd both teams went to tournaments, where girls went 1 to 2 and boys won 2 out of 4 games in their Tournament. Girls crushed Pioneer Valley at home on the 5th, winning 52 to 5. Sergio when asked about how the game gives insight on the season, he said he was hopeful “As long as we play as a team and have a good defense.”

Shea Weber is coaching Boys Soccer and Kimberly Wishon is coaching the Girls team. Practice is on the soccer / football field. On December 2nd Girls played a hard game for the Back Bay tournament, but despite the struggle they report feeling optimistic about the rest of the season. Boys on the 1st and 2nd went to Paso Robles for a tournament, ultimately getting bronze after playing 5 games in 3 days.

Both Boys and Girls wrestling teams are being coached by Alberto Garza. They work out in the wrestling room. So far they have had a decent start to the season, saying that “They are hopeful” and have many first-year athletes. On November 18th girls fought in the Redwood HS ranger shootout, having several get in the top 3 for their weight class. (Didn’t Find much info)

High School sports competition typically goes like this: If teams place high enough in their local league, they will move on to CIF. There, they play against other leagues to get to the finals. At the CIF finals, the best teams in the section play in tournament brackets until there is a final ranking. The top teams then go to state to compete for the ultimate championship against the other top teams from the other 9 sections. Finals start in mid-February for Basketball and Soccer, and early February for Wrestling. Depending on how far teams progress, they may end up playing into March. Schedules are subject to change, so advanced planning may not always be possible.
